The Life of A Pro-Wrestler

Note: This is what I submitted and got rejected. Please read it and tell me my faults.

Pro-Wrestling: The life of a Pro-Wrestler

Pro-wrestlers. A unique or elite group of athletes who step in a squared circle day in and day out to entertain us. The people who go through hardships in life just to perform in front of us.

They have entertained us throughout our lives. Whenever we had a hard time, we used to tune in to watch these athletes just show their perfection.

But, this is not about their qualities and strengths (I know there are many; but that is for another day) but this article is about the stages of life of a pro-wrestler, from childhood to super stardom, and the hardships they goes through.

NOTE: I am referring the pro-wrestler to the third person here! Enjoy!

So without further ado, let’s begin! I hope you enjoy this slideshow!

1. CHILDHOOD

Aha, the first stage of life for a budding pro-wrestler. The child had always admired his favorite superstar he always saw on his TV screen. He always used to wake up in the morning, head to the bathroom, and then he used to take his toothbrush and stood in front of a mirror. Then, he imagined…. He imagined that thousands of people are sitting in front of him. He took his toothbrush and called it his mic, and preached his imaginary crowd about ‘taking the pills’ or ‘having our vitamins’. He always dreamt of being in a top wrestling promotion. He just couldn’t wait for it. But then, reality struck him…..

2. TEENAGE

His passion and intensity for wrestling was undying and it kept increasing day by day. After coming back from school, he used to log on to his computer and surf the web. He went to a regular search engine and he typed ‘wrestling’. He clicks on Search. He found various links and he was overjoyed. He never knew internet had so much about wrestling. “Informative, it must be”, he thought…

But he is shocked. He opened up a link and it was stated in bold, “WRESTLING IS SCRIPTED”. It was an article introduced to new words like face, heel, push etc. He cursed the teachers for not sharing this vast piece of information with the students.

Reality seemed to fade upon him…. He really couldn’t believe what he saw…. “Are matches already decided?”, “Are my heroes and villains friends off-screen?” etc. thoughts boggled his mind.

His heart broke just reading this four word sentence, ‘PRO WRESTLING IS SCRIPTED”

3. POST GRADUATION

He was hooked up on the internet… Not only he realized that pro-wrestling, being fake, was entertaining, he just wanted to be a pro-wrestler. He graduated from a very well-renowned institute and he just wanted to be a pro-wrestler.

Unfortunately, his parents just didn’t like the idea of their son to go and injure himself or get insulted at live television….

But he was determined. It was HIS lifelong dream to be a pro-wrestler and he would have to going to fulfil it. He convinces his parents after days of begging, pleading and asking. His father agreed and he put him in a famous wrestling institute which was known all over the world.

4. IN THE INSTITUTE

He was happy to know that his institute had trained professionals and he thought that his talent would be nurtured in the right way. His first few months go the way he had planned. But, as luck would have it, the trainers there did not like his style of wrestling. They told him that he would never be a top-quality wrestler. They thought he would never make it. They thought that he didn’t have ‘IT’.

He felt wasted. He knew he had immense talent. He knew that the trainers just didn’t realize. But he was disgusted. After years of hard work, all he got was this?

His determination had been broken.

Until……

It was a live event of all the trainees. A WWE employer was present at that event scouting new talent. Legendary pro-wrestlers were present at the event looking out for new stars.. And he had a match on the card!

He faced one of his dearest friends in that institute and beat him fair and square. The legends were impressed. The WWE employer was amazed. He took his tapes and showed it to the WWE headquarters. The people there were impressed and they signed him to a wresting contract… His dream had come true! HE WAS A PRO WRESTLER!

5. HIS MOMENT

This was it! After years of training, he had achieved his goal. His joy had no bounds. He was scheduled to wrestle his first match at the company’s least viewed show, Superstars.

His opponent was a local competitor. He entered the arena with little cheers. It paled to the pop his favourites used to get when they entered, he thought. But it didn’t matter, because it was his first match.

He beat the competitor but in process, injured his right arm. He was sidelined for six months. He never felt the same again…..

6. SIDELINED DUE TO INJURY

He had a small, rented accommodation with limited supply of basic needs. He earned a meagre amount every month. He watched wrestling every week on his TV set and felt disgusted because he knew that he belonged in that ring…..

Finally, the painful six months ended. But all was not well. He did not have any confidence in himself. He did not have the courage. He thought he had lost all his ability…… But he finally returned.

7. HIS TENURE AS A WRESTLER

His injury did not prove to be all bad. The world read all about him on the internet and started rooting for him. His fan support increased. His merchandise sold like hot cakes. He was respected in the back. He felt his dream coming true right before his eyes. Life was great again! He learned an important lesson, “Hard work pays off”.

It certainly did for him! He was on top of the world. He always used to get a huge reaction, whenever he entered an arena. He could proudly say,” I HAVE MADE IT!”

CONCLUSION

This is not related to any pro-wrestler. Any similarity is just co-incidental.

Pro-wrestlers have been through all hardships, losses etc. just to entertain us week in and week out. But we hate some of them for reasons I don’t understand.

I hope you have understood the point I have been making here. Enjoy pro-wrestling but remember the efforts made by the stars on the screen.

Thanks for reading.

  1. I’m very glad to help! Here are some corrections:

Pro Wrestling (you said Pro-Wrestling, a hyphen is unnecessary): The life of a Pro Wrestler

Pro wrestlers: (“Pro wrestlers” is not a sentence. Put a colon or semi-colon instead of a period) A unique or elite group of athletes who step in a squared circle day-in and day-out to entertain us; (nothing major, a semi-colon is more fitting in this case) the people who go through hardships in life just to perform in front of us.

They have entertained us throughout our lives. Whenever we had a hard time, we used to tune in to watch these athletes just show their perfection.

But, this is not about their qualities and strengths (I know there are many [no semicolon needed] but that is for another day), but this article is about the stages of life for (two “of” in three words isn’t necessary) a pro wrestler, from childhood to super-stardom (hyphen is necessary), and the hardships they goes through.

NOTE: I am referring the pro wrestler in third person (“third person” isn’t deserving of a “the”) here; Enjoy!

So without further ado, let’s begin! I hope you enjoy this slideshow!

Most of them are very minor mistakes, but Bleacher Report is VERY strict about minor mistakes, and if there are too many they don’t like it.

Also take note that BLEACHER REPORT SAYS TO KEEP IT WITHIN 500 WORDS. So that was probably the main reason you declined.

  2. Another comment: It was a good read and b/R probably should/would have accepted it had not u went over the 500 word limit. You also overused a few comments. Great otherwise!
